Moto Tiles from our Center for Playware, DTU Electrical Engineering, won the SilverEco and Ageing Well International Awards at the event held at Global Business Hub in Tokyo on 13 June 2019.

After an evaluation process, 45 international companies, products and projects were nominated for the awards, and later 22 of these were selected as finalists. These were evaluated by a jury committee composed of 26 international experts in the field, who selected Moto Tiles as winner at the event in Tokyo, Japan, on 13 June 2019.

"“We are very privileged by receiving this honorable award in competition with the best global companies and products in the field. It recognizes the outcome of a long-term persistency and focus on playware, usability and human-machine interaction in our research, it shows how our research have a central impact in society, and it will provide us with further motivation to bring our research to practical daily use for the good of citizens worldwide”"

SilverEco and Ageing Well International Awards bring together all Silver Economy international stakeholders on the occasion of the international award to honor the large spectrum of innovation in R&D, Design for All, New Technologies, Architecture, Distribution, Robotics, and Marketing. According to SilverEco, this “wide diversity of the Silver Economy stakeholders, their enthusiasm and engagement towards an active and healthy ageing, their innovations and great opportunities of job creating are testifying to the real economic opportunity of this demographic transition.”

The Moto Tiles are designed as an alternative form of physical training to allow seniors to break away from monotonous training programs, and participate in an exercise that is fun and exciting, and therefore more motivating. Qualitative studies show that therapists and seniors find the training with modular interactive tiles fun and highly motivating. Importantly, scientific clinical effect studies have shown that training with the Moto Tiles has a large effect on the functional abilities. It is shown that playful training gives significant health effects with substantially less training sessions than what is needed with traditional training methods.
